CANNONDALE PRO CYCLING (CAN) - ITA
The Cannondale team has been created from the ashes of the Italian Liquigas-Cannondale team and will continue to be a contender in both stage races and the one-day Classics in 2013.
Vincenzo Nibali has moved to the Astana Pro Team but road captain Ivan Basso remains as leader for the Grand Tours, and the Italian will target a third victory at the Giro d'Italia in May after winning the iconic pink jersey in 2006 and 2010.
Basso will have a strong and loyal squad to back him in the Giro d'Italia. Damiano Caruso is expected to confirm his potential in stage races, while Alan Marangoni and Paolo Longo Borghini will be key domestiques. Elia Viviani has decided to abandon track racing for a few years and will focus entirely on the road in 2013. He will be Team Cannondale's sprinter at the Giro d'Italia.
Moreno Moser is the nephew of Francesco Moser and showed his potential in his first season by winning several races in style, including overall success at the Tour of Poland. He will make his Grand Tour debut in 2013 and is a name to remember.
Peter Sagan was 23 in January but confirmed he is potentially the best rider of his generation by winning 16 races in 2012. Sagan has the speed of the best sprinters in the world, the power of the great Classics riders and a burning desire to win. His three stage victories at the Tour de France and his three different ways of celebrating endeared him to fans around the world and the whole sport applauded the way he dominated the green points jersey competition. Watch out for him in the Classics and the Tour de France in 2013.
