CAISSE D'EPARGNE (GCE) - ESP

The Caisse d’Epargne team is sponsored by a major French bank but the team has its roots in Spain.

2006 individual UCI ProTour winner Alejandro Valverde again leads the team in 2008, with a strong and experienced team of Spanish and French riders to back him up in stage races and hilly classics. Valverde was fourth in the 2007 UCI ProTour and finished second in both
Liège-Bastogne-Liège and Flèche-Wallonne.

2006 Tour de France winner Oscar Pereiro shows the team’s strength in depth and is again expected to be a major contender in long stage races, where his endurance and determination emerge. Vladimir Efimkin has moved to Ag2r but Caisse d’Epargne can again count on Russian’s Vladimir Karpets, who won the UCI ProTour Volta a Catalunya and Tour de Suisse stage races in 2007. New signings include France’s Anthony Charteau and excellent climbers Rigoberto Uran and Marlon Perez from Colombia.
