Eindhoven Team Time Trial (NED) - 24.06.2007
The Eindhoven Team Time Trial is the newest race in the UCI ProTour after being created in 2005 and is by far the fastest as the best teams cover the 48.6km race distance at an average of over 50km per hour. The course is based around the Dutch town of Eindhoven and follows out and back L-shaped course that is very flat and very fast. Team time trials are a test of speed, bike handling skills and team work as riders tuck tightly behind each other in an aerodynamic formation. They take short turns on the front of the line before moving over and dropping back to the rear of the team. It takes precision and power. The German Gerolsteiner team won the first edition in 2005 but they had to settle for third in 2006 as CSC showed they are the best time trialists in cycling by stopping the clock in a time of 52 min 28 sec for the 48.6 km course. They raced at a breathtaking average speed of 55.57 km per hour and so beat the Discovery Channel by 42 seconds and Gerolsteiner by 55 seconds. The CSC team went on to win the UCI ProTour team prize and manager Bjarne Riis was proud that his team was the best in the world whenever team work and performance are the decisive factors.
